Double Glazed Sealed Units

We manufacture our own sealed units in our factory using the highest quality float glass, aluminium spacer bar, moisture absorbing dessicant, and Bostik Hotmelt edge sealant.

The thickness of a normal double glazed sealed unit can vary in size depending on the frame. Below is a list of the thicknesses available:

  • 14mm (4-6-4)
  • 16mm (4-8-4)
  • 18mm (4-10-4)
  • 20mm (4-12-4)
  • 22mm (4-14-4)
  • 24mm (4-16-4)
  • 28mm (4-20-4)

A 20mm spacer is the widest available, so using 4mm glass the widest unit will be 28mm which is used as standard in all our PVCu windows and doors, with thinner units more commonly used in timber frames.
Most of the older timber frames tend to accommadate 14mm or 16mm units, with the newer timber frames (complying with the building regulations part L) typically being 20mm - 24mm.

Most sealed units we make now have 'Low E' glass to meet current building regulations and are 20mm or thicker.

What happens when you order a sealed unit:

1. Place your order over the phone, fax, or over the counter
2. Your order is placed into an order batch for an optimised print out, ready for cutting
3. Your glass is then cut from the optimised print out, usually with a printed label for each unit
4. The spacer bars for each unit are then cut and filled with dessicant
5. Once the spacer bars are filled and put together, the glass is put through the washer to be cleaned and dried thoroughly.
6. Then the glass and spacer bars are paired together ready to be sealed
7. Your unit is then sealed on the edge press with our butyl hot melt system
8. Then your unit is placed on our racks to cool down, and ready for collection
9. We have simple payment methods: cheque, credit card or cash on collection, or with 30 days credit with an approved account
