Technical Information

Profile:

The Synseal outward opening casement window is fabricated from PVCu profile, extruded "in house" on the latest up-to-date extrusion machines.

Profiles are of a multi-chambered construction with a 2.8mm wall thickness. The PVCu material from which the profiles are extruded complies with the requirements contained in BS7413 specification for white PVCu Extruded Hollow Profiles with Heat Welded Corner Joints for Plastics Windows - Materials type - A.

The PVCu profile, associated gaskets and accessories including processing by plastic woodgrain lamination and profile cutting are registered to the following standards: BS EN ISO 9002 EN ISO 9002 ISO 9002

Selecta products supplied by RedKite (i.e. profile and hardware) are also BS EN 10142 & 10143 approved.

Jointing Methods:

Our Synseal casement windows incorporate transoms and mullions which are connected to the outer frame, and where relevant, to each other, by means of welded corner joints and mechanical transom and mullion joints.

Mechanical Joints:

Mechanically jointed transoms or mullions have the ends shaped, using an end milling machine, for precise location onto the profile they are connected to. A firm connection is effected by means of appropriate screws into screwports in the PVCu profile or into screwports in the aluminium reinforcing. Mechanical joints on transoms and mullions give a more 'traditional' appearance to the window.

Welded Joints:

The profile corners are mitred and heat welded using a specialised corner welding machine. Weld "sprues" are cleaned off by means of hand tools or by a specially designed (groove) machine.

Drainage:

Drainage is effected by means of holes or slots in the specially designed drainage chamber of the profile in the bottom of the outer frame and casement.

'Consealed drainage' is normally used when external cills are used, and 'face drainage' is used when there is no external cill.

Reinforcement:

Steel reinforcement is roll formed from materials to BS2989 specifications for continuously hot dip zinc coated and iron zinc alloy coated steel, wide strip, sheet/plate and slit wide strip, with a G275 coating.

Aluminium alloy reinforcing is extruded from alloy 6063 - T6 to BS1474, Wrought Aluminium and Aluminium Alloys for General Engineering Purposes.

Furniture and Fittings:

Top hung and side hung casements are fitted using friction stays, constructed from stainless steel type 439 to BS1449: part 2: 1983.

They are adjusted with a plastic friction pad, adjusted by means of a brass screw which provides the friction required for controlling the opening or closing action.

Glazing:

The Selecta 8000 window suite has glazing beads for the following types and thickness in accordance with BS6262: 1982 Code of Practice for Glazing for Buildings:-

* 24mm Shuffle - Co-extruded 24mm Scotia - Co-extruded

* 24mm Clip in - Co-extruded 28mm Shuffle - Co-extruded

* 28mm Clip in - Co-extruded (standard in most of our windows)

Our PVCu windows and doors normally have 28mm double glazed sealed units fitted. Double glazed units have been manufactured and tested to BS5713 standards. As a rule, white windows have units with a silver (annodised) spacer bar, mahogany woodgrain windows with a bronze spacer bar, and golden oak woodgrain windows with a gold spacer bar.

Weatherseals, Gaskets and Wedges:

As with all the window profiles, Selecta have a facility in house to extrude gaskets, wedges and weatherseals.

All weatherseals, gaskets and wedges are made from a TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber) compound. Weatherseals and gaskets come in black or white colours.

Ventilation:

To comply with certain building regulations (such as windows in new houses) a trickle vent may be glazed or fitted into frame members.

Our espangolette locking system enables the casement to be opened a-jar and locked, which is fitted to all of our Selecta 8000 window system.
